Humanities Honors

The Humanities Honors program at the University of Texas at Austin is an individualized, interdisciplinary course of study that offers highly motivated students the opportunity to design an independent course of study built around intellectual interests that cannot be adequately pursued through a single departmental major, double major, or dual degree.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Humanities Honors?

Humanities Honors is an interdisciplinary honors program that allows students to design their own course of study within the humanities. Instead of following a preset major, students craft a customized curriculum that integrates multiple disciplines within the College of Liberal Arts and across other schools.

What is my contract?

Contracts are interdisciplinary degree plans that students individually design and refine through months of collaboration and review with the Program Director before receiving final approval. My contract, titled Business, Ethics, and Law, integrates coursework across multiple disciplines to explore the intersection of commerce, legal systems, and ethical frameworks.

What kind of classes do I take?

With Business, Ethics, and Law as my area of concentration, I took a mix of courses in Government, Philosophy, and Business. For example, I am taking Foundations of Business Law and Ethics, and it has helped me understand the legal underpinnings of business decisions. In the future, I hope to take Strategy Beyond Markets, Philosophy of Law, and Law, Ethics, and Artificial Intelligence to further explore this intersection.

Do I have to do a thesis or capstone?

Yes — a major part of the program is an independent senior thesis, which involves original research under faculty supervision. Although I am currently exploring my thesis topic, I hope to integrate the different strands of my coursework into this one cohesive project.
